A fully tagged campaign URL can easily run past 150 characters — fine inside an ad platform, terrible in an Instagram bio, a printed flyer, or an SMS blast. Shortening the link solves the aesthetics without sacrificing the analytics: the redirect carries every UTM parameter through to your landing page.
